Oatmeal is very versatile and can be used for sweet or savory if you choose the plain “old fashion”. Here are some of my favorite ways to eat this yummy grain!
Breakfast
Pre-packaged for On The Go – I love hot oatmeal for breakfast – Brown Sugar & Cinnamon, Blueberry/Peaches & Cream and plain with fresh fruit added.
Baked Oatmeal – my mother in law made of version of this one time and it was delicious! Here is a recipe from Joy Food Sunshine for Blueberry Baked Oatmeal
Overnight Oats – plain oats, fruit, peanut butter (or any nut butter), Nutella, cinnamon, almonds, chocolate chips.. the list of toppings is endless! Combine, add some milk, place in the refrigerator overnight and enjoy in the morning! Check out this list of 71 different versions by Trimmed & Toned!
Mid-day / Workout Snack
Oatmeal bites – combine oats with peanut butter (or any nut butter), honey and chocolate chips for a quick, protein packed snack that will hold you over. Add ground flaxseed for more fiber.
Oatmeal Muffins – a great snack for breakfast, midday or any time of the day really! Start with plain oats and add banana, eggs, cinnamon, baking powder, milk (or substitute) and chocolate chips if you are feeling more on the sweet side. Dinner/Savory
Oatmeal for dinner!? Not something you hear very often unless you are having a breakfast theme, but oatmeal can be savory as well. I admit, I have never tried anything like this and after reading an article from Greatist with 9 recipes – it’s going on the menu!

Recently I played around with my own recipe for Oatmeal Cream Pies and oh boy were they delicious! Fluffy vanilla buttercream sandwiched between two chewy oatmeal cookies.
